For the longest time, I’ve wanted to show this incredible woman just how much she means to me. I’m not the most romantic guy, so finding the perfect way to express my love wasn’t easy. And of course, she had been dropping hints about the type of ring she wanted. But I told her in my family, tradition is everything and we had to meet her family first, get their blessing, before we could even talk about an engagement.

Then came the day I went to Saint Tracy’s, just to browse a few rings. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, but the moment my eyes landed on the diamonds, I knew I had found it—the perfect symbol of the love I felt for her. I couldn’t take my eyes off it, imagining it on her finger, sparkling just as brightly as the love we share. I bought that ring a month before she was ‘supposed’ to travel home for our introduction.

The anticipation of whether she’d love it or if it would fit her was overwhelming.

Fast forward to the day of the proposal. With just few days before her trip, I enlisted the help of my baby sister to set up a small, intimate surprise. We had to be discreet, so we told her we were going to celebrate my friend Supercarsofnigeria’s wife, who had just been promoted. She looked absolutely stunning that night, dressed to perfection. On the way, I played her favorite artist, Johnny Drille. Apparently, she had a feeling something special was about to happen, but in my mind, there was no way she knew what was coming.

We arrived at the venue, where I had invited some of our closest friends—mostly mine, since hers are scattered across the world. My sister whisked her away to the restroom, which gave me some time to collect myself, though it felt like they were in there forever.

And then, the moment finally arrived. As she walked back into the room, all eyes were on her. I dropped to one knee, holding out the ring that had been burning a hole in my pocket for what felt like an eternity. She didn’t even let me finish asking before she snatched the ring from my hand with the biggest smile on her face. 😂😂😂It was perfect, in every way—her joy, the laughter in the room, the love surrounding us.

And what happened when we got back to my place? Well, that’s a story for another day. 😉

Our friendship had its ups and downs, partly because I wasnt ready for anything serious at the time eventhough he had made a move. Fastforward to 2019,I reached out to him after months of us being incommunicado, we caught up and he said he was in a relationship then, but I knew in my heart that he was the one. I playfully told him “You’re mine and I’m coming to get you.”(laugh emoji)

And get him, I did. The rest as they say is history. Looking back, it’s incredible how everything fell into place – how a chance encounter in Bible school turned into a love story neither of us could have predicted. From friendly arguments over faith to building a life together, I’m endlessly grateful that we found each other.
